Auditioning for Chorus Niagara
Chorus Niagara invites singers with a passion for great choral music to join us! Our 2019-20 season is filled with a variety of dramatic, exciting music! (see CONCERT SEASON page for detailed information) We draw singers from Buffalo, Niagara Falls, St. Catharines, Grimsby, Dundas, Ancaster, and Oakville, Brantford and everywhere in between. Rehearsals are every Monday night from 7-10pm at Beacon School in St. Catharines. There's an expectation that chorus members work on music at home between concerts, in order to maintain the high standard for which Chorus Niagara is known. Check out our rehearsal and performance schedule for the upcoming season so as to have a sense of the time commitment required.
We usually sing with an orchestra and perform in four or five concerts per season; classical works, contemporary compositions, commissioned works, Christmas favorites, Handel's Messiah (alternate years), spirituals, operetta, opera choruses and more.
Auditions are in late August/early September and on occasion throughout the year. Prospective chorus members sing a piece of their own choosing for the audition, something that features their musical ability and vocal range to best advantage. During the audition, prospective chorus members are also asked to sing back a short piece of music and to sight-read a short piece.
Even if your sight reading is a little rusty, or you haven’t been in a choir for a while, go with that inner voice that’s telling you 'this is something I’ve been missing in my life'. Singing with Chorus Niagara is wonderful, challenging, tremendous fun and a great chance to get together in pursuit of making beautiful music! We welcome your interest!
