Attention Niagara Region High School Aged Emerging Composers

 

CHORUS NIAGARA CAROL COMPOSITION CONTEST

We want your most festive holiday seasonal songs for Christmas!  

 

TWO winning scores will be chosen, workshopped and performed as part of our Welcome Christmas program on Saturday December 17th by the massed voices of Chorus Niagara.

 

Composition Criteria 

  • Mixed voices (SATB) either with keyboard accompaniment or a cappella.

  • Can include, or not, a solo voice or separate part for children’s choir

  • Based on a secular text

  • 3:00 – 4:00 in duration 

 

Eligibility

  • Composer must self-identify as a high school or university student and reside in the Niagara Region 

 

The winning young composers will receive:

  • Mentorship from Chorus Niagara’s Artistic Director and a Composer advisor

  • A performance recording of their work

  • An opportunity to workshop their work with Chorus Niagara

  • A $250 honorarium. 

 

Deadline

Completed PDF score must submitted by Monday October 3, 2022,11:59 PM EST. 

Include with your submission a brief descriptor of:

  • Your carol / song; why your text appealed to you; what musical effect you wish to convey

  • Why you chose to participate in the Chorus Niagara Carol Composition Contest and your compositional background and aspirations 

  • Attach a resume and head.
