​Chorus Niagara Children's Choir Principal Conductor

Position Overview
Chorus Niagara is seeking a dynamic, passionate, and skilled Principal Conductor for Chorus Niagara Children’s Choir (CNCC). The successful candidate will inspire young singers, foster a love for choral music, and uphold the choir’s tradition of excellence. This
position involves leading rehearsals, planning repertoire, and ensuring the artistic development of the choir in alignment with the mission and vision of Chorus Niagara (CN).

Key Responsibilities
1. Artistic Leadership:

Plan and conduct weekly rehearsals for CNCC’s Concert and Chamber Choirs, through effective and age-appropriate teaching methods;

Select repertoire for the whole program (Training through Chamber choirs; (ages 3 - 16) in collaboration with respective conductors of the Training and Intermediate choirs;
-
Prepare the Concert and Chamber choirs for performances, including concerts, community events, and collaborations with Chorus Niagara;

Assist and collaborate with the conductor(s) of Training and Intermediate choirs;
-
Lead the choir in 2–3 annual concerts and additional engagements as scheduled.
2. Program Development:
-
Collaborate with CN’s Artistic Director and administrative team to align the CNCC's vision with organizational goals;
-
Develop a curriculum that enhances musical literacy, vocal technique, and ensemble skills in order that young singers thrive artistically and personally.
3. Collaboration and Communication:

Report to CN’s Managing Director and work closely with CN’s Administrator;

Communicate effectively with parents, caregivers, and choir members, informing them of schedules, expectations, and events;

Collaborate on projects and events in partnership with CN’s adult choir, including (but not limited to) Singathon, Side by Side, and main stage CN concerts;

Represent CNCC within the broader CN organization and in the community.
4. Administrative Duties:

Work closely with the Chorus Niagara administrative team on program logistics;

Participate on CN’s Youth Engagement Strategy (YES) committee.

Qualifications and Skills
-
Degree in music performance, music education, or choral conducting (Master’s degree preferred);
-
Demonstrated experience in conducting children’s or youth choirs, with strong pedagogical skills;
-
Demonstrated ability to connect with, motivate and inspire young singers;
-
Proficiency in selecting diverse and developmentally appropriate repertoire;
-
Excellent communication and organizational skills;
-
Commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for all participants;
-
Strong collaborative spirit and the ability to work effectively with staff, parents, and community partners;
-
Desire to continue to build on the strong CNCC foundation, always seeking opportunities to recruit young people, as an enthusiastic ambassador.

Compensation and Hours
-
This is a contract position (renewed annually) with compensation between $13,000 - $15,000.
-
Estimated 10 - 15 hours per week. This is inclusive of weekly Wednesday evening rehearsals.
